I painted this utility box in La Jolla, California, sponsored by UCSD, to honor the neighborhood spirit in the area. I wanted to combine the idea of “shared wall living” so common in the La Jolla Village and University City area with the many local boutiques and eateries that line downtown La Jolla. This rendering depicts a facade of three buildings with windows that look in on rough sketches of living spaces, shops, and a bakery. This project was especially fun because I could be outside while painting, but one of the most enjoyable parts was being on the street and talking to people who were passing by. I had many people pull over in their cars to ask questions or just talk about the project. I love that this piece is seen by so many people everyday.
